Adolescent Summit | Montessori Education for Social Change

NAMTA, MISP, AMI and MMUN are organizing an inspiring and ambitious gathering of young adolescents this summer in Prague. It is to be the first time when young people will play such an important role within the International Montessori Congress.

The Prague Adolescent Summit will empower students by providing them with the tools needed to enact change in their communities and become social and environmental entrepreneurs.

What is the Prague Adolescent Summit (PAS)?

The Prague Adolescent Summit is the next logical step for students interested in becoming Earth Citizens. PAS is an immersive experience where students from all over the world aged 13-18 years will build on the foundation of their PAS preparatory work (sent upon registration)  and/or local Summit Experience to develop action plans to construct a more sustainable world ready to be implemented on their return home.

Over the course of five days, Montessori and NGO experts will guide and mentor the participants. Participants will learn everything they need to know to implement a social action project of their own design in their home communities independently or in collaboration with others. The social action projects they design will be linked to the concept of Environmental Sustainability as found in the Earth Charter.

After the conference, students will be able to post videos, photos, progress reports and blogs on the Bridge App. They will even be able to conduct fundraising campaigns on the site for their project. Furthermore, all participants will be matched up with professional mentors, experts in their fields, who will be able to guide the students towards meeting their goals and refining their ideas.

What does PAS offer?

  • At PAS students will meet with Montessori and NGO experts who will help them gain a deeper understanding of the environmental problems affecting our local and global communities. They will be challenged to change their community.
  • PAS offers a holistic approach to understanding a problem. The scientific, historical, geographical, and political reasons behind problems are investigated and real world solutions are sought.
  • PAS offers tangible supports to young people to develop a social action project in their community. MMUN connects young people with environmental experts, and encourages students to undertake a project that is right for them and their community.
  • PAS participants are taught project management skills so that on return to their home communities they have the tools to undertake a social action plan connected to Environmental Sustainability.
  • PAS participants create a social action project they are passionate about, and with the support of mentors, define their goals and plan of action.
  • PAS participants tackle a real problem. They also report on their outcomes – positive or negative.
